Registering for Accommodations

Are you a student with Usher syndrome? Would you like to share your accommodation experiences? Contact us here: info@usher-syndrome.org

Since elementary school, your parents and support teachers have ensured your accommodations for the upcoming school year by reviewing your IEP each year. In college, you will no longer have an IEP. The responsibility will fall on you to obtain the necessary supports for success. In college, you will work with your school’s accessibility services office on campus to determine the accommodations necessary for success. Before enrolling, it is vital that you contact your school’s accessibility services to determine the accommodations you'll need and to get the ball rolling. Many young adults with Usher syndrome who have been through this process previously share their advice on obtaining accommodations.

  • "Registering for accommodations should start before you even decide to attend your selected school. You should have already had a preliminary meeting with the disability resources office, where you went over the accommodations you plan on requesting and how they can meet your needs and work with you to ensure a successful college career."
