November 2010: Usher Researcher Call Notes

Dr. Arlene Drack discusses her work with various potential therapeutic interventions, including TUDCA. Dr. Drack has been working with 'knock-in' mice testing various potential therapeutic interventions, including TUDCA. TUDCA (Tauroursodeoxycholic Acid) is a compound found in the bile of bears and has been used as a treatment of visual disorders in Asia for thousands of years. Please note that TUDCA is NOT proven safe as a treatment of Usher syndrome at this time (so don't stuff your kid full of it!). It simply holds promise, as Dr. Drack discussed.

Dr. Drack also discussed her work on CME and the effects of light on the retina, including the use of tinted contact lenses.
