Don't let the sun go down on USH

Own The Equinox

August 22 - September 16

3rd Global Usher Syndrome Awareness Day:

Saturday, September 16, 2017

A huge thank you to all who Owned the Equinox last year! Check out some of the highlights from the 2016 awareness campaign.

Starting August 22, 2017, we will Own the Equinox again. This 26-day challenge will culminate in the third annual global Usher Syndrome Awareness Day that will start at 8:00 AM on Saturday, September 16 in Melbourne, Australia.

The autumnal equinox marks the start of days that contain more darkness than light. It is a powerful metaphor for the threat of Usher syndrome. We will Own the Equinox, claiming the third Saturday in September as Usher Syndrome Awareness Day. This event will span the globe, with families participating in Europe and North and South America, before wrapping up at 8:00 PM in Fairbanks, Alaska. We will take a 12-hour event and make it last for 31 hours, pushing off the darkness for the USH community.

HOW YOU CAN COMMIT TO OWNING THE EQUINOX

Bucket 1: Just a mile a day!

Run or walk the Own the Equinox Mile-a-thon in your hometown.

While a marathon is 26.2 miles run in succession, you can run or walk the mile-a-thon over 26 days. Starting August 22nd, pop outside your house or hop on the treadmill at the gym, and walk or run at least one mile every day. You will have covered at least 25 miles in the 25 days leading up to Usher Syndrome Awareness Day on September 16th, when you join the USH family for a brisk 1.2 miles! Kids can do it, too!

Bucket 2: Create your own 'a-thon'

Not a runner? Not a problem.

Start your own spin-a-thon, yoga-thon, bake-a-thon...Starting August 22nd, share what you're doing to Own the Equinox for the next 25 days. Sharing is easy: check out our Tool Kit for ideas, flyers and suggestions. Then, join us in spirit for the big day on September 16th.

So get up, get out and join all of us in the USH family to raise awareness on September 16th. Help us own the Equinox! #USHEQX
