WATCH: Congressional Briefing on Usher Syndrome
On March 19, 2015, the Usher Syndrome Coalition, in partnership with the Wynn Institute for Vision Research at the University of Iowa, held a Congressional briefing on Usher syndrome, featuring Edwin Stone, MD, PhD. Congressman David Young of Iowa helped kick off the event, followed by the Coalition's Vice Chair Moira Shea and Bella Dunning, who commented on their experiences living with Usher syndrome. Dr. Stone then gave an extensive overview of Usher syndrome, including the exciting state of research and WIVR's roadmap for the cure of this disease. This briefing, along with accompanying Congressional office visits, went a long way towards ensuring Usher syndrome research is made a higher priority at the National Institutes of Health.
