June 2009: Frontiers Conference

 

The Frontiers Conferences sponsored by the Decibels Foundation, Hear See Hope, the Harvard Medical School Center for Hereditary Deafness, and Children's Hospital Boston was attended by more than 100 people.  Attendees to the morning session on Usher syndrome learned about the latest on Usher syndrome from Dr. William Kimberling of Boys Town Hospital and the University of Iowa and on upcoming treatments from Dr. Uwe Wolfrum of Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz.  Attendees also heard from a family panel of Gail McKinnon, Lynn Donnelly, and Rachel and Melissa Chaikof.

In the afternoon attendees learned about the genetic causes of hearing loss from Dr. Heidi Rehm of the Harvard Medical School Center for Hereditary Deafness, the management of hearing loss from Dr. Margaret Kenna of Children's Hospital Boston, and future treatments of hearing loss from Dr. Albert Edge of Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary.
