What hearing changes can occur?

For most people with Usher Type I the hearing loss is profound at birth and therefore has little room to degrade.
For most people with Usher Type II, the hearing loss remains stable for most of their life. However, it is common for all people to lose some of their hearing with age and Usher II people are no different. Also, research now indicates that about 10% of adults with Usher Type II begin, at about age 40, losing more of their hearing that would be expected due to age. However, this loss is not rapid and only a very few lose all their hearing.
